I wanted to talk to you about a topic that’s been on my heart recently. The topic is that it takes more than declaring Jesus your Lord and Savior to walk as a new creation in Him. Transformation in Christ involves much more.

When I rededicated my life to Christ on January 24th 2018, I believed that all I had to do was go to church on Sundays and I was good. Meanwhile, I kept all of my vices: drinking, smoking, promiscuity, anger, depression etc, and had no motivation to change any of it. It wasn’t until I began praying, reading the word of God every day, and making a genuine attempt to make Jesus the center of my life, that things truly started to change for me.

The Lord began speaking to me or rather because I was actively seeking Him, I began hearing Him better. And He began to heal me by dealing with all of my vices patiently and intentionally. Through Christ, I’m almost two years sober from any alcohol or drugs, and I now have proper strategy for dealing with the emotional instability that I once suffered from.

Now let me be clear, when you declare Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are saved and you experience “Spiritual Freedom” for “if the Son sets you free, you are truly free John 8:36NLT.” However what you lack as a believer when you stop here is “Spiritual Awareness.” As believers we recognize that we live in two realms simultaneously at all times, the physical/natural realm and the spiritual realm. Our earthly vessels give us immediate access to the natural realm, but only daily relationship with Jesus gives you access to the spiritual realm, thus giving you Spiritual Awareness.

Spiritual Awareness is just as important as Spiritual Freedom because by making Jesus the active, center of your life, you allow Him to give you timely wisdom about how to address different things going on in your life. This is where all the miracles, signs, and wonders come from because you allow Jesus to move on your behalf and WIN all of your battles for you.

I believe a lot of Christians end up disappointed when they first convert because they think things will just change overnight. I know because I was one of them. But as I’ve grown on this journey in Christ, I’ve thought about how much it would’ve helped me to know that, I have to be ready to change in order to see change.

I want to encourage anyone in the faith who might be wondering why things don’t seem to be moving the way they believed they would. Continue to pray, continue to let Jesus in through reading the word of God and worshipping. All of these things will increase your ability to hear Him as you seek Him. Remember, if you only have Spiritual Freedom, you’re only half-awake. You need Spiritual Awareness as well to be fully woke.

Til’ next time adieu.

“And anyone and everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for My name's sake will receive many [even a hundred] times more and will inherit eternal life. But many who [now] are first will be last [then], and many who [now] are last will be first [then].”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:29-30‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Oftentimes when we hear people mention that scripture where Jesus says the last shall be first and the first shall be last, we get excited. We start to think about all the times we felt left out or left behind and we shout out “GLORY!” because Jesus is finally restoring us from that place. We also envision our new life in first place.

We see the new opportunities that we’ll have access to, we see all the locked doors now open to us, and yes, we see our haters hating from the sidelines, a place where their hate has no power. Now don’t get me wrong, this is good. We should have the vision to envision better for ourselves, especially when it is in alignment with what Jesus wants for us. However, context is key.

In the scripture, before Jesus talks to us about our major jump in the line from last to first, He gives a very important and often overlooked stipulation. He says “And anyone and everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for My name's sake will receive many [even a hundred] times more and will inherit eternal life” (Matthew 19:29AMPC). This means that there is major sacrifice and deep discomfort that comes with going from last to first.

Leaving your home and your family in the name of Jesus and submitting yourself to the call He’s placed on your life, is a TALL order. Your choice, in many cases, is going to make you seem like a loser to outsiders, way before anyone is made privy to your wins for the kingdom. No matter how it seems however, it’s important to know the truth.

Last place is where despite the seasons of opposition, and doubt, you continue to forge ahead because you’re certain you heard what Jesus told you to do. Last place is where you wait on Him for days, months, and sometimes even years because you believe that He will keep His promises to you, despite them not yet materializing in the natural realm. In essence, last place is where all of your growth and true transformation take place.

I want to encourage anyone who is following the will of the Lord and struggling with your last place season(s). You are not alone. The resistance and push back you’re experiencing, I’ve been there too. And when you look at the word of God, you see that overcoming opposition is a part of the process toward greatness.

This doesn’t make it easy, but you can rest in the fact that others have made it through and so will you. People often condemn being in last place but within the kingdom of God, you must first go low before you can be raised high. You may be in last place now but remember that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. You’ve got this and God’s got you!

Til’ next time, adieu.
